Laytown Races are one of the most unique
Horse Racing events staged anywhere in the world.
Horses
race across the Drogheda beach, (Tide permitting), on 3
evenings a year. I believe this is the only sand racing event
held under Racing Rules anywhere in Europe. It is truly a
unique occasion and should not be missed. This year (2001) We
believe that there is only one scheduled meeting for 19th
June. If this situation changes we will post new details on
this page.
The "racecourse" is located north of Dublin, on
Laytown Strand, in Drogheda, County Louth, and is easily
accesable from either Dublin or Belfast, (where lots of
visitors come from). The meetings are all well attended, but
as you can imagine the facilities are somewhat more limited
than at conventional racetracks.
