| Royal
Dublin is one of our finest Old Links courses, and founded in
1885, the second oldest course in Ireland. Venue year on year
for the Irish Amateur Open, including 2001 and 2002.
In
appearance somewhat similar to St Andrews in Scotland, this
fine test of golf measures 6,855 yards in length and is a
PAR 72.The Golf Course has some of the fastest summer greens
in Ireland, well maintained and a credit to the ground staff,
Royal Dublin is only a short drive from Dublin Airport and
some of our Finest Hotels. If your visit to Ireland takes in
this region do not miss the chance to play on one of our Gems
of a course, you will not be disappointed. If necessary you
can hire golf equipment, caddy cars and caddies here (they
are always good humoured whatever your standard of golf !)
Located
just a few minutes from one of the busiest City Centres in
Europe but presenting the atmosphere of a tranquil park Royal
Dublin affords you the chance to play an unusual links course,
unusual because the course is laid out on very flat land with
few undulations. The narrow fairways place a premium on accuracy
and the prevailing winds ensure that the last 9 holes are
some of the toughest tests of golf you can play. The 18th
hole is a spectacular dog leg with a fully 90 degree bend.
The out of bounds has to be carried here and your second,
or third shot, to the green has to be fairly accurate as well
as the club house is situated a few yards from the green itself
!
Although
a traditional members golf club, (a jacket and tie is acceptable
dress in the main bar, casual in the grill room. Guests are
welcome weekdays but to play weekends please call the Secretary
/ Manager to arrange prior to turning up), the clubhouse has
a wonderful atmosphere and the staff and members are amoungst
the friendliest you will find in Ireland. The food is wonderful
and you could do far worse than spend a full day here, play
36 holes and retire to the well stocked bar for a deserved
whiskey and some pleasant company. I've had many a great day
here, scored badly but enjoyed the course and company emmensely.
I would thoroughly recommend Royal Dublin to all.
