| "Set
right on the Atlantic and exposed to the ocean through all her
moods, moulded and shaped over centuries by nature's harsh elements
and an occasional touch of human genius, Lahinch, with it's
towering sand dunes, undulating fairways and rolling greens
is the perfect natural golfing terrain - a true links course."
- Such is the introduction on the Lahinch Golf Club website
and a comment with an ominous ring of truth about it as well
!
Lahinch
is a wonderful golf course and club, friendly knowledgeable
members, excellent staff and a welcoming atmosphere will greet
you at one of Ireland's best links courses. Known and respected
all over the world this jewel in the crown of Irish Golf,
home to many major competitions over the years, and a wonderfully
challenging Par 72, 6123 yard long course will test you to
the very limits.Typically fast links greens make this a hard
course to score well on in the summer, the greens are often
surrounded by dunes and well placed bunkers drawing a compaison
with the OLD COURSE at ST. ANDREWS. This
comparison in not without fact, both are very old links courses,
both have staged major tournaments, both are a pleasant challenge
to play, especially in the Summer Months when the ground is
hard and it becomes difficult to stop the ball on the green.
True Links golf at it's best.
Situated
in WEST CLARE, this great test of golf has been home to the
oldest championship in Ireland, THE SOUTH OF IRELAND AMATUER
OPEN, running since 1895. Surely a testament in itself to
the quality of the course. If
your visit takes you anywhere near COUNTY CLARE be sure and
play this course with exception to any other. You will not
be disappointed.
