Ballybunion
Old is a wonderful links course, situated just outside Ballybunion
town, near Listowel on the coast of COUNTY KERRY, this established
PAR 71, 6542 yards long course has long been thought of as
one of the most challenging to play in Ireland. The Home in
2000 of the Murphys Irish Open.
There
are in fact 2 courses at Ballybunion. The Old Course and the
Cashen. You will find it hard to get a tee time on either
of them in the summer months and our best recommendation to
you here is to use the services of an established golf
tour company, especially if you are travelling from overseas.
For
many years now Ballybunion has been a must play course for
avid golfers from all over the world and especially Americans.
Bill Clinton played here and as a testament to his surviving
the Old Course, and his official visit, a statue has been
erected in the town. Many professionals use this course as
a warm up to playing in the BRITISH OPEN, Tom Watson, (who
claims that "Having played the Old Course many times
since my first visit in 1981, I am now of the opinion it is
one of the best and most beautiful tests of links golf anywhere
in the world."), Tiger Woods, Mark O'Mera, to name but
a few, are often found here.
There
are some amazing features on the old course, graveyards, large
sand dunes covered in very tall grass and ridged fairways,
coupled with the fast summer greens, make this a wonderful
test of your golfing skill. But please play the Cashen Course
if you can as well. Both offer you true links golf and are
demanding to play.
Do
not miss the chance to play at Ballybunion, especially when
there is a Breeze blowing, it will test you to the limits.
