One
of the very best Inland golf courses created by Robert Trent-Jones,
Adare Manor Golf Course is set in some 800 plus acres of the
grounds of the magnificent Adare Manor Hotel. One of Irelands
finest. Located about 20 minutes from Limerick City Adare
manor is an oasis of tranquility and splendour.
The
course is 7138 yards long, PAR 72, with plenty of water hazards
en route. and has three lakes, including the main 14 acre
lake anchoring the front nine. The Maigue River meanders through
the back nine creating a sense of beauty and challenge, particularly
on the 11th par 3 and the 18th par 5 finishing hole. The course
has four tees on every hole with a championship yardage of
7,138 declining to 5,082 yards. The Adare Golf Club is an
exciting golf challenge for all.
Although
the course itself is comparitively new (1995), the turf has
settled well and it plays like a course many years more mature.
The lakes and rivers which surround and cut through many of
the holes, particually on the 11th and 18th, create a nervousness
in many a golfer. A miss hit shot will be punished.
That
said Adare is a very fair course and the greens are fast and
true, especally during the summer months. If your visit takes
you anywhere near this COUNTY LIMERICK course please play
it. You will be very glad you did.
The
club has recently refurbished the Club House and now offers
a superior standard of catering as well as a wonderful location
to spend a while in. Adare village is one of the most scenic
in Ireland and a short walk around this historic town with
its thatched roofed cottages is thoroughly recommended here.
Whilst
there do try the HOTEL, especially for dining in. The food,
atmosphere and wine list is exceptional and well worth the
accolades won.
