There are many employment opportunities throughout Ireland
in many sectors of industry, however before moving to Ireland
it is wise to plan well in advance, secure a job and check
if you need a work permit and that all your papers are in
order.
There are some countries whose citizens will require a permit
to work in Ireland. However individuals can not apply for
a work permit themselves, your future employer must apply
on your behalf. It is necessary to supply all relevant documents,
references, employment history and qualifications to your
future employer. The employer must prove that they have made
a serious effort to recruit a candidate from Ireland or the
EU, but that you had the best skills of all other potential
candidates for the same job. Applications will only be accepted
subject to certain conditions and it takes approximately 6
to 8 weeks to find out if you are successful. Individuals
cannot do anything to speed up the application process and
individual cases will not be dealt with by the department.
If you do need a permit, make sure you apply and plan well
in advance.
The Work Permit Section of the Department of Enterprise, Trade
and Employment examines applications from employers and issues
permits where appropriate. A scale of fees ranging from £25
(€32) to £125 (€159) applies depending on the duration of
a permit
