Eyre Square is the central point in Galway
city and mostly everything revolves around it, including the
one-way road system, so
it is very difficult to get lost. The main
regional bus station and train station are located within
the same building at the top of the Square, there is one taxi
rank outside the door and one directly across Eyre Square.
Fares are normally £1 per mile.
Car-parking in Galway involves buying a parking disc or using
one of the multi-storey carparks which are clearly signposted
around the city centre. Most car parks
cost 80p per hour or up to £10 for overnight.
Disc parking costs 50p per hour and discs are available at
most newsagents and shops in the city. A fine of £25-£50
is usually incurred on vehicles parked illegally or without
discs displayed, or they may be clamped and towed away! The
City bus service is very good and serves all the outlying
residential and shopping areas, stops are located around Eyre
Square and throughout the city.
