Driving around Ireland is probably
the most enjoyable and rewarding way to see the entire country no matter how long
you intend to stay. You can drive east to west in about 4 hours and North -South
in about 5 hours, as the country is just 170 miles wide and 350 miles long.
The standard of our roads is generally good though there are very few motorways.
Many National or "N" roads have been improved in recent years and this
work continues as Ireland grows. Rural or "R' roads are also good, though
out in the country they may not be as well maintaind. And they may be winding
with blind curves. Other roads may often be little more than narrow laneways and
of uneven surface.

All traffic in Ireland drives on the left and roundabouts go clockwise. If you
have never driven on the left and are generally not a confident driver it will
take you a few days to "acclimatize" to driving here. Please see our Driving

airports and cities. During the peak season all are very busy so it is wise to
